Welcome to Criminal Law Institute

This website is designed to allow you to download three publications: Search and Seizure Workbook, Trial Tactics Workbook and yearly volumes of Appellate Updates, and Legal Articles. Access to these publications are password-protected and are available at a yearly subscription rate of $175.00. Workshops involving the Workbooks are conducted or a regular basis and attendance at the Workshops includes a yearly subscription.

The publications are designed to be downloaded in Word or Word Perfect. They are supplemented with new cases on a weekly basis so everything will be current through the past week.

Search and Seizure Workbook is divided into the following sections: Warrantless Arrests, Search and Arrest Warrants, Transportation Code, Confessions, Motions to Suppress, Forms, and Questions and Answers. The Workbook is so large that it is difficult to download it in toto, so it is designed to be downloaded a section at a time.

The Trial Tactics Workbook contains information on the art of being a trial lawyer, and discusses trial preparation, including forms and case law, from the inception of a case through jury arguments. The table of contents for both Workbooks may be viewed by clicking on the link found at the bottom of this page.

Appellate Updates: Every Wednesday at noon, there is a seminar, called Appellate Updates, summarizing the past week’s appellate decisions from the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the Texas Courts of Appeal, and the U.S. Supreme Court. It is held in the Lawyer’s Meeting Room on the seventh floor of the Harris County Criminal Justice Center, 1201 Franklin, Houston, Texas. There is a ten-page handout with the summaries on the past week’s opinions and there is a $2.00 charge for the printed handout. A copy of the current Appellate Update is posted weekly on this website at no cost, and may be viewed by clicking on “This Week’s Appellate Update.” A compilation of past years Updates are also included by year (subscriber access required for these publications).

In addition to these publications, the website has Legal Articles on various subjects, links to the Court of Criminal Appeals, Courts of Appeal, the United States Supreme Court, Texas Statutes, Find Law and other research sources. Also included are links to lawyers and experts in various parts of the state.
